The formula
needed = (target − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w
Where this usually goes wrong
Weight as a percent of the whole grade. An answer above 100 means the target is out of reach even with a perfect final — worth knowing before the week you lose to revising.
Worked example
On 82%, wanting 85%, with the final worth 30%, you need 92%.
