Privacy Policy

StudyFrame is built so that the sensitive part — your documents, your questions, your screenshots — never leaves your computer. This page explains exactly what is and is not collected, and tells you how to check rather than take our word for it.

1. Who we are

StudyFrame is operated by StudyFrame. For any question about privacy, your data, or this policy, write to studyframeapp@gmail.com. A person reads that address.

2. The short version

• The tools on this website run entirely in your browser. Nothing you drop into them is uploaded.
• The browser extension answers questions and writes summaries using Chrome's built-in on-device model. Your content is processed on your own machine.
• This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
• We never sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

3. What we collect, and how

This website

Nothing, beyond what any web server unavoidably sees. There are no cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising tags, no embedded fonts and no third-party scripts of any kind on these pages.

Files you open in PDF to text, PowerPoint to text or PDF to flashcards are read by JavaScript running in your own browser. They are never transmitted, because there is no endpoint on this site to transmit them to.

Verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use any tool on this site. You will see no request carrying your file, because none is made.

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare Pages, keeps standard server logs that may include your IP address, the page requested and your browser's user agent. These are produced by the act of serving the page, are used only to keep the site running and secure, and we do not combine them with anything else or use them to identify you.

The browser extension

Everything the extension makes — summaries, answers, flashcard decks, practice tests, your study streak and your speed measurements — is stored locally on your computer using Chrome's extension storage. It stays on your machine. We cannot read it.

Your documents, screenshots and questions are processed by Chrome's built-in on-device model. They are not sent to us, and not sent to any third party.

Anonymous usage counts — off unless you turn them on

In the extension's Account panel there is a checkbox marked Share anonymous usage counts. It is off by default. Nothing in this section is collected unless you switch it on.

If you do switch it on, what is sent is:

• A random identifier generated on your device when the extension was installed. It is not derived from you, your computer or your browser, and is not linked to your name or email address.
• The extension's version number.
• How many times each feature was used — for example, that a snip was started 14 times and answered 11 times.
• How long those actions took, on average, in milliseconds.
• How many separate days the extension was used, and how many days since it was installed.

The purpose is narrow: to find the step where the product is failing. If most people start a snip and never get an answer, that is a bug we cannot see any other way.

No content is collected, by design rather than by promise. The function that records these events takes an event name from a fixed, closed list and an optional number. It has no parameter capable of carrying text, so no question, filename, summary, web address or page you visited can be recorded through it, even by mistake.

Untick the box at any time and collection stops immediately.

Feedback you choose to send

If you use the feedback box in the extension, we receive the message you wrote, the extension version, that same random install identifier, and — only if you fill them in — an email address for a reply and a rating from 1 to 5. The email field is optional and marked as optional.

Accounts

If you create an account, we store your email address and either a hashed form of your password or, for Google sign-in, the stable account identifier Google provides. We never receive your Google password, and we never store your password in a readable form.

An account carries exactly two things between your devices: what you have purchased, and your study streak. It does not carry your documents, your decks, your summaries or your questions. That restriction is enforced in the code by a fixed list, not by convention.

Payments

Payments are processed by Whop, who act as the merchant of record. Your card details go to them and are never sent to, seen by, or stored by us. We receive only confirmation that a given plan was paid for, so we can unlock the features you bought. Whop's own privacy policy governs what they collect.

4. Why we process it

• To provide the product — storing your decks and summaries so they are there when you come back.
• To fix and improve it — the opt-in usage counts, and any feedback you choose to send.
• To give you what you paid for — recording that a purchase happened and unlocking the matching features.
• To keep the service working and secure — server logs and rate limiting, so one person cannot overwhelm it.

We do not process your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We share data only with the providers needed to run the service:

• Cloudflare Pages — hosts this website and sees standard server logs.
• Whop — processes payments and holds your billing details.
• Google — only if you choose Google sign-in, and only to confirm who you are.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If StudyFrame is ever sold or merged, your data may transfer with it, and we will say so on this page before that takes effect.

6. Cookies and tracking

This website sets no cookies. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers, so there is nothing here for you to consent to or opt out of — which is why you have not been shown a cookie banner.

The extension uses Chrome's own local storage to keep your work and your settings on your device. That is not a cookie, and it is not visible to any website. Clearing it is covered in section 8.

7. How long we keep it, and how it is protected

• On your device: kept until you delete it or remove the extension. We have no way to reach it.
• Server logs: retained by our host on their standard schedule, typically around 30 days.
• Account data: kept while your account exists, and deleted when you ask us to close it.
• Usage counts and feedback: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted.

Everything is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are stored using scrypt, a deliberately slow hashing function chosen to make a stolen password database expensive to attack. Login sessions are stored as hashes rather than as usable tokens. The extension itself contains no secret keys of any kind, because anyone can unpack an extension and read every string inside it.

8. Your rights, and how to use them

Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the UK and EU, and the CCPA in California — you have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you gave earlier.

You can act on most of this yourself, immediately:

• Stop usage collection: untick Share anonymous usage counts in the extension's Account panel.
• Delete everything stored locally: remove the extension at chrome://extensions. Chrome deletes its storage with it.
• Close your account and delete it: email studyframeapp@gmail.com and we will do it within 30 days.

For anything else, write to studyframeapp@gmail.com. We will answer within 30 days, we will not charge you, and we will not ask you to justify the request. If you are unhappy with our answer you may complain to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

StudyFrame is intended for students aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, write to studyframeapp@gmail.com and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the effective date at the top and bottom of this page. For any change that materially affects how your data is handled, we will also give notice inside the extension before it takes effect, and where a change requires your consent we will ask for it rather than assume it.

11. Purchases and refunds

StudyFrame is software, delivered and usable the moment you pay, so purchases are non-refundable as a general rule. The full terms are on the Terms of Service page, including the statutory cancellation rights that apply to buyers in the UK and EU regardless of that rule.
