Where this usually goes wrong
For light in a vacuum v is 3.00 × 10⁸ m/s. Wavelength in metres — nanometres must be divided by 10⁹ first.
Worked example
Green light at 500 nm has a frequency of 6 × 10¹⁴ Hz.
